Table tennis is a sport that requires a table tennis table, table tennis rackets and a table tennis ball to be played.
The table has a net in between dividing it into 2 parts.
The sport is mostly played in the form of singles but can also be played in the form of 2v2 (doubles).
The player on one side starts the game by serving.
To serve in table tennis, the player must throw up the ball, hit it with their racket and the ball must bounce a minimum and maximum of 1 time before it goes to the other side. The player on the other side must hit the ball back to the other side after it has bounced once on their side.
It may sound confusing, so below is a demonstration of a table tennis rally.
SPIN
Spin plays a key role in the game of table tennis. It will help the player trick their opponent or even simply manipulate the direction of their opponent's return. The rule of spin in any sport consisting of contact between an object and a ball is that; when the racket is brushed towards one direction, the ball will spin towards the opposite direction.
There are 3 types of spin. In the given figure, the trajectory of the ball shows the more that the ball is pulled back, the longer it will stay in the air. A ball with no spin will land exactly where intended after bouncing because there is no additional force on one side of the ball, it is only affected by gravity and air resistance.
When topspin is put on the ball, the ball will dip into the table because of the difference created in the air pressure around the ball and because of the spin being in favor of the air pressure.
Backspin is the same thing but with opposite directions involved.
